Now Frankies cracked the segmented knot I thought I`d post up the pictures I took today whilst making another 2. These are just the way I went about, probably others would do it differently :nooidea:

I started with 2 blanks cut square & both the same size, I mark one end this will always be the end that rests on my stop on the bandsaw miter gauge.

The first cut is made on both blanks just as you would an ordinary knot but cut all the way through, this one is at 55 degrees, the end of the one blank is then glued on the bottom of the other with the the packing material (plastic & aluminium in this case) in between.

The blanks are turned 180 degrees & a second cut made, the ends are swapped & glued back together

I then carried on making cuts & gluing back together as you would on a normal Celtic knot, each time swapping the top of one blank with the other.

Until you end up with 2 finished blanks.

It`s important to ensure the packing material is the same thickness as the kerf of your blade & you need to realign the blanks each time as closely as possible, I used a piece of MDF with a back stop to aid aligning & put a thin piece of plastic under the blank to stop it gluing to the MDF.

Drilled & finished on a Gunmetal Euro pen kit.

Superb Doug. I like it but I think I might have put them on a nicer kit than a euro for the work you've put in.

That's a great pen and it doesn't matter that it's a Cigar pen, with the celtic knot it has a higher selling price, much, much, much higher:thumbs:

No problem Jim though you might want to wait as John may well have a more definitive tutorial, I`m happy either way just enjoyed doing it.

Perfect Doug. Just perfect. Very nicely done. Photos to go with the explanation and the explanation was kept as simple as the design is. I greatly think that belongs in the library for sure. I can not add anything else. By the way that is a great looking pen. This all makes me want to make some more of these.

By the way it can also be noted that you can stop at 2 cuts and get a different but still cool look. I think Doug showed this in another thread. Might want to include that also.

Who would have thought that a simple showing of some pens would spur this kind of postings. This reminds me of some old times on another forum. I think it is great. Loved every minute of this. Thanks all.
