Evening pen friends.

Hope you’re all keeping well.

I’ve made a load of fountain pens recently but thought this was worth sharing. Apologies if I’ve shown one like this before. I find myself sticking to the materials I like now so maybe the variety of my output will diminish as a result.

It’s Mazzucchelli Poseidon which isn’t easy to turn. Heat builds up faster than with more standard acrylics and it can cause melting. Which nobody wants.

Anyway it came out well. Jowo nib, 13mm triple lead with a chrome clip. The customer went for the roller clip in the last couple of photos. And I think he was right.

Cheers
Ash

Gorgeous pen, Ash!

I love working with Mazzucchelli material - as you say, you have to take care and slow everything down to avoid overheating, but the result is great.

Yes it is exactly as you say. Unforgiving but stunning in equal measure.

I'm loving that green, really nice and rich. You haven't used any accent colours on this one, just the silver fittings, very nice. Not sure what would compliment that colour though, great job

Cheers Mark.
Yeah customer wanted fairly simple pen with a little bit of silver just to frame it. I think with some materials less is definitely more. 👍👍

Superb, ( as always !!! ) Ash.
I assume that material is the same as Cebloplast, which I have used in the past...not much fun drilling.

Very good finish....how did you finish it, please???

Mazzuchelli is a material on my most wanted list ;-) beautiful depth of colour and a perfect shine. I guess from the posts it's a awkward material to work with but the finished pen is art.

Thanks Alan!

Yes it’s the same stuff and it does get hot quickly. It melts a bit like rubber (although there is no rubber in it). So I tend to drill a bit, play some darts, drill a bit, play some darts etc. That 9-darter isn’t far away with all the practice I’ve been getting 😉.
Finish is sanded then buffed using the dark tonight buffing compounds that I got with the Beal system.

Cheers
Ash

I bought this blank with a view of turning a pen for my own use for what it cost I would never be able to sell a pen I made to recover my out lay
But thats not what it is about. Any way the company I am curently working for is one of the biggest Methyl Methacrylic producers in the World.
I work in research. There Research facility is next door to were I work so I took the blank in and showed it too them. I thought it might of been extruded but aparently not the rods acording to them are cast. Obviously the material is no longer made. When I told them how mutch I paid for it they offered to match the coulors in a modern material if I could sell it at the same price. They were obviously pulling my leg.
But they found the material really interesting and gave me some really usefull advice as to how I should go about turning drilling etc of the material.
