its warm enough to venture into the shed..segmented slimline ( sort of ), made with a beaufort Ukraine blank...ill have a go at the other one tomorrow think ill make a center band for it
Well what a day this has turned out to be.
I had a kit for the "New Style Screw Cap RB" pen.
I turned it on Sapele and finished it with melamine so I only needed to assemble it.
I emptied out all those bags and laid all the parts out.
I then assembled the centre band. I looked at the band and...
Hi Everyone,
Firstly I'd like to say hello as I'm new to the forum and wanting to gain more knowledge on turning, cutting and resins.
Hope everyone is keeping well at the minute given the circumstances.
Been reading the forum as theres a lot fo great information on here so will certainly be...
Recently I have had a motor fail on my bandsaw.
Its an SIP 14" which isn't that old and everything is working well apart from the motor.
It has two speed via the belt change, I tend to use it on the high speed most of the time, however when I do change to low speed it always seems too slow for...
4 Prozx, very under rated kit in my opinion. Nice weight, nice decoration and easy to turn. Perfect for a novice, just make sure you get the center band and clip right.

I have a gift for not knowing when I am in water over my head. Made my first clip. Then I said to myself, "Self...you know how to solder. There must be more. If you can solder, you can form a band. If you can solder and form a band, a plate added to a band makes a cap. No worries. How...
Hi Everyone
I am looking for help again!!
I posted a few weeks ago with regard to the best saw to have in my workshop.
I eventually settled on the Record BS250.
I received this item yesterday. I unpack it I tried to run it.
it did not work. After some time examining it I found a number of...
I have a load of Panga Panga wood so much I don't know what to do with it it is 18mm thick but ideal for some pen blanks so this is the first of this wood.
As the title the kit is a slimline with a streamline centre band.
Well this is number two pen from me today which I promised. now I need...
I have a Charnwood W715 Band Saw. I need to get a new blade they come with a width of 1/4" - 3/8" - 1/2" which size blade do you recommend for cutting mainly pen blanks.

At first I really didn't like these things but then as my experience grew (only a little) I realised I could discard some of the bits I didn't like. So far I am quite happy with the results however, I still need to do something about that centre band.

I had another go at the Delta, and this time I found away to bring together the two halves without the unsatisfactory contact from before. I flared the ends either side of the centre band.
The blank was quite funky, so I think it works ok.....

Hi all
I am a very new wood turner based in Sussex... had my lathe for 7 weeks now and have just turned my first pens.
The main thing I have found is that I needed to sort out my shed!!!
Now acquired a bench grinder (handy for making things sharp!) and band saw and some gouges etc.... amazing...
OK quick question....this is for a jnr gent...as can be seen from the picture it obviously has an orientation it looks to be 13mm on the right which would be the middle band and 12mm on the left which is the bottom....but i think that puts the blank upside down...is this just me or should this...
I had to have another clean up to day,put all the bowl blanks that were put where ever there was room at the time.
I put them in boxes and plastic bags to try and stop the crickets etc eating the wax off them, and stacked them behind my band saw.
I had three piles, two were high as the fence on...
To be honest, I'm not too keen on the Euro design with the weightier top and slim body, so I used the kit but made the body the same width as the centre band. I also got to practice a new skill of cutting in a shoulder for the centre band to slip over. Over all, I must admit, I'm quite happy...
