I made up a Mattese fountain pen dressed it in Spalted Apple wasn’t sure about this kit but am now well pleased with it and two Managers pens one in burr Elm and one in Brown Oak
This one is made from Brown mallee (stabilised) and cellulose acetate (threads and section).
The cellulose parts are glued into the wooden pieces using 2 part epoxy. Then the drilling, boring, threading and shaping.
This model has a smooth profile when capped (no lip between the cap and the...
So I spent three or four days looking for a display/presentation box to hold 4 pens with out any luck beaufort sell a 2 pen case Luxury tan leatherette pen box I thought I had found a nice leather roll but the delivery was twice the price of the roll but I really want a leather box tan or brown...
I turned a Leveche rollerball using a Brown Mallee Burr blank. I used epoxy to glue the blank to the tube and after bringing into the house for a couple of days cracks appeared along some of the burr lines. I finished it using Phil's melamine technique.
Any advice to prevent this much...
This is a pen I recently made for myself out of CS brown swirl. It’s probably may favourite material so far.
Originally it had no clip but yesterday I was doing a crossword with it in the garden and I had to pick up a few things to bring into the house. With my hands full I realised I’d need to...
As promised Brown Mallee Burl as I only know it ,ie I have selectively bought over 40 yrs. In fact the larger Cue Stick piece and the other pen blank must be in the order of that old cut, well dried prior to this. I find it photographs shyly with a slight cast . However this is the (IMHO) the...
I’ve not glued my fingers together with CA adhesive for far far too long or for that matter turned a pen so this evening I rectified both these things with some aluminium, black plastic, a piece of Brown Oak & copious amounts of CA glue.
Another pen with history in it. This time a 900 year old Royal brown oak wood, from a tree from the Great Windsor Park, London. This wood turned well and polished nice. In all, a pen that handles very in your hand, (well done on another well designed pen Phil).
Thank again Lignaterrae.

A new six-color brown DiamondCast blank made it into my last package from Tim McKenzie. As usual, the amazing sparkle is almost completely lost in my photos, but holding it in bright natural light takes one's breath away This fountain pen features a gold #5 Bock nib and gold pocket clip (from...
Not the best photo, but here are 5 Alpha's. I'm only certain of the wood on the 2nd and 3rd from the left which are 2nd Brown Oak 3rd Spalted Beech. 4th might be Padauk, 5th might be Purpleheart. 1st one is brown. Finished with Melamine Lacquer.
Here's a proper pic of the quick one I did on my workbench the other day.
I'm missing a spot light at the moment.... Sigma 105mm lens on the way (canon EF50 1.8 at the moment which can't get in much closer than this.
I've got a plain brown leather book on the way - I know some of you aren't...
First time really turning acrylic. Still learning.
Don't like the clock pen, big chunk of brown at the end near clip but shows whitish instead of light brown in the picture.
In my mind its a poor blank should be blue the full length, but who am I to judge.

A while back, I bought some Brazilian brown ebony blanks on eBay and got round to turning one of them yesterday. The blank didn't look that interesting, but what gradually emerged was a gorgeously figured piece of wood in lustrous shades ranging from gold to chocolate. The blank now adorns a...
Hi all,
I've been given a few pieces of timber, and require help identifying some of them - if anyone can
This first piece is very "orange" and extremely dense. Planes a treat though!
The second piece is a proper reddish brown, planes nicely and is less dense. Lovely colouring as...
