After my chat with Garno, I went to turn these.... I gave up before they did..... Boy did I try
I wondered why one went slack on the mandrel, then I saw the crack.... :sob:
I next tried Milliput to fill the crack, which worked really well, but when I put my first finish coat on it stuck out like...
This wasn't the easiest to do, and I found finishing it a challenge too it blocked really quickly, and you may notice the crack that was all the way through the blank - but I'm happy with the end piece.

I made this stand for the salt and pepper when I had a bit more time on my hands.
When I finished it I dropped it and you can see the crack on the piece of cherry.

This was a bit of a pain to say the least. Having said that I knew what was coming as I had used another piece before.
Cut from the intersection of the trunk and a branch. May have to be a keeper unless I can work out a way to repair and polish the hairline crack in the top.
