I have the lathe and most of the kit I need to start making pens. Lot of info on here to read as I'm very green. So far all I've managed to create is a mess. Looking forward to creating some family heirlooms.
Bristol based - been wood turning a short time, and have been introduced to pens by a friend (oh dear!) I have made one, and suddenly seem to have a list of orders from friends and family!
Various bits of kit now winging their way here from Beaufort Inks / Axminster, so will start to play!
So the big day will soon be with us.
Fortunately I have made all the pens I needed to dish out as prezzies, 12 pens for 9 different people and that got me thinking,
No doubt you have all made pens for all of your family and friends at Christmases gone by, and am curios to know do you give them...

Emma AKA The Tiny Turner has shown many how to make baubles and snowmen from the globes she sells I thought that I wanted to have a go at something different so came up with a clown.

A small request from a friend of the family they wanted a cross as a marker for their late husband which some of her family promised but never did do.
It is only a basic cross and temporary until something more permanent can be sorted there will be a brass plaque put onto it.
At least they will...
Growing up I had the impression that people lived and died in their 70's, 80's and a few got into their 90's.
Last week my mother celebrated her 104th birthday two weeks after her sister had her 102nd.
My mother's 2 brothers are 99 and 92.
Two of my father's sisters were 100 when they died...
Hi all :)
This Christmas was a special one for my family, partly as it is unfortunately likely to be the last one with everyone there.
I want to try and make some pens for the family from the wood of our Christmas tree.
I have removed the branches and debarked about a meter of the trunk...
Had play today and a break from pen boxes.:banana:
First clock I have done with laser engraving my own details on them. Normally used purchased numbers or faces.
Little bit of learning as the number 9 and 3 needs bringing in a bit but I think I'm nearly there..
Pleased with that...
Did I picture myself on a scooter. Last Friday as one of Wilmas belated 80th Birthday presents a Day at the Canberra Zoo. Having trouble walking any distance it was heaven for me the Zoo is 22 Hectares large. It is so heavily planted and beautifully maintained, a photographers nightmare with the...
Good morning (at least morning in Michigan USA) to all. I have been turning pens since approximately 2002 when I was introduced to them. I do not sell them (although I did when I started) I either keep them or give them away to family and friends. :winking: I am no expert as I make...
Jim has asked me to let you know that he is and will be away from the forum for the foreseeable future. His wife is very ill and I am sure you will understand that his first responsibility is to his family. At the moment he has no idea how long he will be away, he will be back when he feels the...
