    Melamine fumes

Melamine users - do any of you thin it down and find it reduces the fumes? I like the finish, I'm happy with how to use it... But even with a good mask and using it outside for the best ventilation I can get, it makes me feel sick and headachey as soon as I get the lid off. I'm fine with...

    Citrus

Bought a few long time ago in America, this wood is hard and full of Spalting with colour all through it. As the turning peeled off you could see the fine lines all the way down. Three sharpenings almost unheard of for me in this pen. Love it. Peter.

    Spurtle

Hi guys, just a Scottish Spurtle made today. Turned from English Cherry wood, sourced locally. Loved this wood, very fine grained wood easily turned and sanded down to a very fine finish. Just had a little walnut oil applied to the surface, to bring out the grain. May turn more later, as I have...

    Ash bowl

Getting ready to do a turning demo and was going to take the rough turned piece to work on so in preparation I started by returning the tenon and just take enough off to take out any wobble but found that it was tearing out something terrible so decided to complete it and find another one to...

    I am confused

So .... today I turned two slimline pens and they seemed absolutely fine... I will post photos when I take some... Then I turned a blank for a bolt action and it’s so off true you could trip over it... I have asked a question about disassembly of that on another thread but how can the above...

    Replacement nib assembly for Omega's

Afternoon, I'm sitting on the horns of a dilemma. (ouch). I've a commission for a couple of blind end Omega fountain pens, and the customer has requested one to be a fine nib. Now I know Phil sells a Bock assembly that would suit very well, but even the least expensive option will add £12 to...

    Magnetic Tool Rest

I've been having a few turning issues recently and it's more noticeable with fine work like pen making. I thought it was me then realised that the problem is with the tool rest. My tools are sticking too it slightly as it seems to be magnetised. I have another tool rest and that's fine...but...

    Threading wood

I have tried putting a thread on some wood doweling using my metric metal tap and die set (12 mm) and it was a failure, it looks like the tread is too fine for wood. What thread size do I need for wood any help and advice would be gratefully accepted.
