Fully hollowed out to 5mm (ish). This Oak blank had been kicking about for ages so I thought I had better use it and make some space.
The finial is Maple and the lid is some bit of scrap. I think it's all still moving a little but hopefully will settle down. Dare not take any more of the lid...
Glad to have my lathe back up and running, it seems strange as I knew by the sound how it was behaving but now the motor is so quiet.
Started out with a very uninteresting piece of wood and was going to use black stain to enhance the grain that is there but did not get the desired effect so went...
Not done a hollow form for quite a while so thought about time I did another. Made from field maple for the main body, American black walnut for the top and beech for the finial. Was going to colour the finial but liked it the way it looked contrasting against the lid.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a pic of my very first box with lid and finial, (picture at the bottom)
which is the Woodturning club challenge for Jan.. the nice comments suggested my finial was a bit small... So here is V2:

Another hollow form, this time from beech with an ebonised finial, size is approx. 13.75" high x 5.75" at its widest, to be fair I'm not so sure about the finial on this one, but c&c as usual is welcome
