    Olive Wood

Mornin' all, Does anyone have any preferences when finishing Olive wood for pens? I like this wood especially the colour, but adding finishes seems to distract from the look. I am aware that all finishes change the appearance to some degree but I need something that is less "intrusive" if that...

Hi, Having been asked to make a "nice pen" for a family member, I bought a couple of Alumilite/burr blanks and have turned one down, but would like to know how best to put a good finish on it. I have read much on the site about finishing, and see that it is a matter of personal preference and...

Achieving success with melamine as a finish

I've been asked countless times to explain my method for using melamine, and in the light of another discussion in the last day or two, I've finally made time to write it down. It's a very quick process to apply the stuff, but as I discovered, to explain it in writing is anything but quick...

    Finishes for wooden pens

What I really think about finishes for wooden pens. Originally posted on Facebook, updated and posted here at Phil’s request. I have written about pen finishes on a number of occasions but invariably my views have been constrained either by the need to be comprehensive and inclusive in...
