Rescued from the firewood basket
A friend of mine who is a carpenter had placed this little piece of Bubinga in his firewood basket as such a tiny piece of wood was of no use to him. Lucky I spotted it! Nice simple grain and much better as a pen I think. Yes i know its another shiny pen. I just like shiny things! Another...- CraftyNick

Sorting out firewood and keep getting distracted! Found a bit of Hawthorn yesterday and made this 5" at the round by 3" bowl. Today I found a bit of Berberis and stopped sorting again! (5" x 2 1/2") Will this chore ever end?- Neil Lawton

"Rant of the week"
Ok ok.. :rant: So I have been buying quite a bit of my wood for the boxes from a small joiners shop that has off cuts, very often needed a little more processing but I felt it was worth it.. I consider I was paying a fair price as he was originally selling it off as bulk waste every 6 months... -
Is Silver Birch any good for turning?
I've got this largish limb to remove of this Silver Birch tree! Is silver birch any good for turning or do I just cut it up for firewood? I get the impression Silver Birch is prety boring/non interesting timber?
