    Ghost Gum Ares II

    Follow up to the Ghost gum Ares, now in a Lignum Vitae box. What do you think? Rather a challenging wood to work with, put traditional hinges on this, had to drill and use a self tapper screw to put a thread in the wood so I could get the screws in. mega hard but finished really nice.

    CORYMBIA maculata AKA Spotted Gum.

    A Burl blank,never seen the Burl Form before. The tree is indigenous to Australia,has a Gray stem with white bark that flakes away leaving conspicuous spots ,the reason it is commonly called Spotted Gum. This blank the only one I have seen came from the Southern Tablelands in Queensland. Peter.

    Alum with I think too many rings. The 2 pics are of the same pen but I'm having a hard time with the photos. The gum metal tip turns up that bronze shade.
