    Happy chappie

Hope you all had a great Christmas and got lots of very nice pressies. I for one am very happy, none of the usual socks, slippers and smellies instead I had some nice workshop pressies. A replacement for my old Dremel tool which is starting to become very noisy the other is a small angle type...

    Tap Handle.

I started this tap handle years ago from some forgotten type of fruit tree wood I picked up years ago in the Adelaide hills. I had just finished turning it, came back the next day to put finish on it and found it had cracked.:vangry: Found it under the the bench the other day, filled the crack...

    Oh nuts

Sat in a draw in the workshop I have a tap and die set for wood which I brought to make something a while ago but it never got used. So I thought that I needed to at least have a go at using it so a simple nutcracker was in order, made from apple for the main body and screw and Oak for the handle.

    the finished article

hey all, the other day I posted some pictures of my knife I am making out of some garden sheers. the scales (handle) was made by myself using wood and resin. Well I am happy to say that it is all finished! 4 days worth of work and I am so happy with it, especially the handle! I am still awaiting...

    Robert Sorby gouge

I've been making my own tool handles today as I have ordered some HSS steel to make some skew, scrapers and a few knives. My Sorby 1/2" gouge was pretty much ground to a nub so I thought I'd remove the tang from the handle and insert a new chisel. I never really looked closely before but the...

    More restoration

Just a couple of my tool restorations. Both these screwdrivers were given to me by Neil Lawton that well known retriever of tools in need of attention. The smaller ratchet screwdriver is a Moore and Wright and was only ratcheting in one direction, the plating on the ferrule was nearly worn...

    Handles

Today I mostly be making handles for my long hole boring shell augers. One restored 3/8" given to me by my good friend Neil Lawton and fitted with a mahogany handle and a new Record Power 5/16" fitted with an ash handle. Wood is just off cuts from around the workshop, ferrules are Ashley Iles ones.

Bottle stopper / Shaving brush handle moulds

I'm about to start developing our Bottle stopper / Shaving brush handle moulds/molds! What sort of size would you like to see? I'm thinking of the option of 2 different moulds a 40mm diameter x 65mm high & 45mm diameter x 65 diameter version! Both capable of casting 2 blanks at a time to keep...

    Homemade Carbide Handle

I bought some 15mm carbide radius cutters from Arizona Carbide a while back, and finally got around to making a handle. I used a 12" length of mild 1/2" square steel. I marked it, drilled it, and tapped it with an 8-32 tap. For the notch, I cut a slot with a hacksaw a little deeper than the...

    Replacment handle

Last month I brought three chisels from the club two were OK but the third had a home made handle which I did not like so I got into the shed a remade it. Tomorrow I will fit it together but here is the old handle(top), new handle(middle) and a Sorby one which fashioned the new on on as I find...

    HSS chisels versus Carbide tips

I would like to say at the outset i am not here to wind people up. I know most of you are diehard wood turners. I use a small round carbide tip on a home made handle (oak) and 5/16 round SS rod. The carbide tip has zero rake and i use it to basically knock off the edges of the blank. As it...

    Spindles?

Grandson phoned me the other day and asked if spindles are any good to use on my lathe, being a bit of a tight git I said bring em over and i will have a look, and they were longish door handle spindles, very hard steel, so this is what I used em for! My fav price
