Good afternoon everyone.
Many thanks for letting me join what looks like a great forum.
I am totally new to woodturning and have yet to turn anything, I am hoping that I have not bit off more than I can chew by choosing pen making as my chosen hobby.
I have been working on sorting out my shed...
This one is a little simpler than the last one I shared, much less work with less furniture, (i.e. no clips or rings).
I must say the Kirinite blanks really are lovely to work with and, provided you sand properly, they polish up to a fabulous shine. This is Root Beer with Black Pearl accents...
I needed a break from some of the little jobs in the shed and needed to get my fix of turning.
Anyway turned this little bowl from some ash and a little coloured filler. Turned this with and undercut to match the outer shape.

As the title, I have some ideas that I want to play with so the wife brought me this little piece of equipment to play with as a Christmas present. Spent an hour setting it all up as the metal cradle needed bending into shape as well as being bolted together, then the bottom brick(under the...
Sat in a draw in the workshop I have a tap and die set for wood which I brought to make something a while ago but it never got used.
So I thought that I needed to at least have a go at using it so a simple nutcracker was in order, made from apple for the main body and screw and Oak for the handle.
I was not planning on going in the workshop to turn this as I had something else I wanted to complete.
Anyway, this is a box made from Lignum Vitae and measures 4" X 3" to the top of the finial/handle. Sanded to 2000grit using woodwax 22 as a lubricant as I feel it needed nothing else as it...
Good day ladies and gents. I hope you all had a good Christmas and I wish you all the best for '19.
DIY friction polish....hmmm.
Decided I'd try and make my own so I trawled the trusty youtube and found exactly what I needed.
Now I'm not one to take the word of the first person I see /...
1st time using milliput for pens. A bit apprehensive when mixing the different colours. Very hard to judge the amount needed. All in all I'm pretty happy with the results!
I have been very quite in making things as I was busy preparing for a talk as well as working on another woodworking piece nothing to do with toys. I just needed to make something quick.
He stands 5 1/4" tall

I've got a 50th birthday coming up for a friend, he's a musician, saxophonist.
Does anyone know of any music blanks, or kits I can buy? Ideally would like a nice blank with notes that I could make a slimline from. I've seen the music kit on Axminster, but it doesn't look that attractive.
Hi all,
Was told about this forum by another member. I am relatively new to pen turning so it's good to find a place to get help when needed. Been looking around and have learned quite a bit already about casting blanks as this is something I would like to try.
I picked this desk up on freecycle thought it would be great to do some pyro work and piercing work on as well as painting if I make a false top so that it holds the bowl when tipped upwards. It can be angled at varying degrees up to about 60 to 75 degrees. It was wobbly when I got it and all it...
Good afternoon all
I recently posted a thread looking for a multi coloured blank that a customer requested but didn't realise that I had to post 5 times before I could attach a picture file so I imagine there are a lot of scratched heads out there? I was advised to introduce myself so here goes...
