As this is wood based project I have put it here.
Another toy/model for one of the great grandsons. The second photo is just the start of the tracks each link including the pins have 5 pieces in them and there is a total of 60 altogether so lots of parts just for the tracks.
After my chat with Garno, I went to turn these.... I gave up before they did..... Boy did I try
I wondered why one went slack on the mandrel, then I saw the crack.... :sob:
I next tried Milliput to fill the crack, which worked really well, but when I put my first finish coat on it stuck out like...
Done a little bit of jiggling about this morning.
Made a small jig for the drill press.
This jig will keep the blank square and stable whilst drilling.
I hope to put it through it's paces over the weekend.
Feel free to copy it :ciggrin::ciggrin:
Thank you to all for your kind words and support in this troubled time..... So let's break out my lockdown lathe.... Stop laughing Garno, (I can hear you before I have posted this:funny::funny:) as they say size isn't important as long as I'm turning and best of all when I'm done I can pick it...
Went to see this chap yesterday, i'm the young handsome one on the left.(15th Nov 2021) Woody
He is finishing doing a lot of pen turning so I went over to buy some tools, kits and bits and bobs off him.. (Yes, I know I probably have enough as it is.:rolling:)
Great chinwag as always and put...
I have spent all day trying to put a finish on a Macassar Ebony pen blank.
I Sanded to 600 grit and cleaned with Meth Spirits until the cloth I was applying it with stopped coming back black. I then put sanding sealer on, around 6 or 7 coats, until it looked even.
I then tried applying CA, for...
Follow up to the Ghost gum Ares, now in a Lignum Vitae box. What do you think?
Rather a challenging wood to work with, put traditional hinges on this, had to drill and use a self tapper screw to put a thread in the wood so I could get the screws in. mega hard but finished really nice.
I have attempted to do a bowl over these last few days, it is the first thing I have turned with zero supervision.
I think I have messed up the finish as to me it looks too dark, also when taking the nipple off I did not have enough padding on the inside as have a line near the top where the...
As some may have read in another post I am upgrading my workshop but I have one huge big fear and that is when everything is put back in the new one I will not know where anything is:thinks::thinks::thinks:
The first turning of the year/ I just had to go and turn something I have kept it simple as the wife kept asking for a bowl for the small coffee table to put fruit and sweets in for Christmas (well at least it will be ready for next Christmas:funny:). Measures 10 1/2" X 2"
I am a little confused, it's easily done and I am a complete beginner please forgive me.
I am looking to get some basic tools and equipment ready for the big day.
Looking at a mandrel, there are many adverts selling mandrells with a variety of collets , MT1 MT2 and "straight" for people like...
Hi all,
2020 put me in need of a new hobby, decided on pen turning,.. for the life of me, I can't figure out how or why as I'd never seen anyone do it and never heard anyone mention it,..
So, here I am saying hi.
Best
John
Well, I’ve been around wood turning long enough to see some fatuous bits of equipment created to meet some totally unnecessary desire of someone to make others waste their hard earned cash. Please don’t pander to this next “invention”. It’s coming to an outlet near you shortly no doubt, just...
As mentioned in the thread about melamine lacquer.
There were a number of articles to be pressed together.
I started off with my old screw clamp type device but got frustrated.
So put together this new one from an old lever clamp.
Much more efficient and easier to use.
Base is some black...
Well, I lied really, it’ll never be really complete but it’s now down to the clearing up inside so you can’t see inside yet, my secret! Was talking on the phone to Jan this afternoon and we were talking about workshops and I told him that I hadn’t been in quite so prolific pen production mode...
