    Has anyone

Just wondering if anyone has turned DENA wood. It must be one of the hardest woods around. If you want to practice sharpening gouges just use this wood. Gouges need plenty of sharpening every couple of minutes.

    Thoughts on carbide tools

Since discovering that cross cut blanks showed the wood in a different way I have been cutting nearly all my blanks this way or at 45 degrees, problem doing this is that I now seem to be spending more time sharpening my gouge than actually turning lol, some woods like Oak seem to dull the edge...

Anyone use carbide chisels for turning?

As title says just wondering if anyone uses carbide tipped chisels to turn their pens, I am considering some till I can afford some decent hss chisels and sharpening system. Am aware I may get two differing opinions but would appreciate advice from anyone using carbide. Thanks in advance.

    Sharpening jig blocks

I find it much easier to use jigs for sharpening so I made these blocks for some recent tools. The rectangular block is for my 10mm round skew, the large triangular block is for my 1/2" point tool and the smaller one for a 1/4" detail tool. M6 set screws hold the tools in place whilst sharpening.

    Which sharpening system?

I'm fairly new to woodturning, and although I have a fair number of woodturning tools, I've been sticking with the removable carbide tipped tools, as I'm no good at sharpening normal woodturning chisels. I'd like to be able to use, and sharpen, chisels like a 'proper' woodturner! :sob: So...
