Earlier this year I came across this under one of my benches.
I started to make this one on my first lathe, I am guessing in the early 2000s
I gave it to a mate, who is very partial of a beer, who would probably put Andy Capp to shame.
Hi all,
Sooner or later I was going to try this and so today seemed as good as any to start! As you can see I am attempting a celtic knot ( 'not' being very appropriate) I have about 15 bland Walnut blanks to try with, I am hoping that it won't take that many....
So all started well, with a 1mm...
You never quite know how these blanks will turn out, this was a stabilised blue maple burl that was very very dark before I started turning it, only for it to change massively on the finished pen.
Regards
Padster
I was looking for something else and I found two of these kits, I had bought them when I first started to turn.
Blimey I was shocked with what I found:duh:
The original plan was to make one for dad and one for me.
Well Dad doesn't need his any more guess, I will find a use for both of them...
Hi all,
As some know already I am having to thin right down what I do, as such I have a box of 50 surplus kits, I have had a quick total up and it's frightening what the costs are..... What I would like to do is two boxes of 25 kits+ extras to two separate people to give more people a chance...
Morning all so two weeks ago I started to make a pen from a burl, and I was happy to say it was working out really well but then the unthinkable happened, the cap thread snaped my fault I turned it far to thin. It must have been a loss of concentration, so I left in in the kitchen for a week or...
As per my prviouse post, I am slowly getting back into the swing of things.
Workshop is now close to being how I want it and casting is now back up and running...
Some I make into pens, some I give away to friends that have just started turning and I am starting to get a fair pile of blanks...
Hi,
I started looking how to turn a pen.
Apparrently the first thing I need is a lathe.
Started building the aformentioned lathe last week, until it is in a useable state I am reading all the tips and tricks here and gathering bits and bobs that may be useful.
If I can start a pen early next...
Day 96 of Quarantine. Bin collection tomorrow, preparing to take out the rubbish.
So excited I can’t decide what to wear.
-------------------------
Don't know what's going on, but I took my bin out about 8pm tonight and
the whole street started clapping, which was nice...
Well at least the materials have started to arrive, all I need now is some fine weather to start putting it together.
This is the new flatpack now where is part A
Not woodwork, well there is at least a bit of burr elm there. No wonder I don't have time to make pens. :thinks:
The missus is pleased with them but Bob's bored now so started a little carving for the granddaughter.
Made from scrap copper pipe of various sizes from 6mm up.
These were started for two different projects earlier this year before I started having eye floater issues. I was happy to get back and actually finish the pen. A bit rusty with tool control, but worked out OK.
Comments, critique and beatings all welcomed.
I know its got nothing to do with woodworking, but the scales are of my own design and to be honest, I am rather proud of it.
So a little while ago I was at some friends, who incidently have a forge. I took over some old garden shears and got to banging and clanging forging out a knife.
It had...
Last year they held a Creative force exhibition to show how creative arts can help with recovery, this year The Regional organiser for Scotland orgaised one at the Lochelly Centre in Fife & one at Napier Universty in Edinburgh.
The Lochgelly Exhibition started on Saturday & runs for 2 weeks. The...
Hello all. I only started woodturning fairly recently and have started making some pens. Finding them good for building confidence and consistency as they are achievable in fairly short windows of time.
I do a lot of youth / young adult care and support work based on the family farm. I am...
Had two left over blanks so rather than one top one bottom cut them all in half, glued
and turned this evening. Few burn marks to match the joints.
It’s a present for my partners son. He started it but got a bit nervous the Xbox was
left alone to long lmao, so I finished it for him.
