    Hello from Manchester

Hi all, Relatively new turner just 6 months into my turning journey. Have done both wooden and acrylic pens, slimline through to fountain pens and really enjoy doing them. Just wish you didn't have to faff about gluing tubes in things. Next step is to try an aluminium pen - have the blanks...

    What a load of garbage

Had a strange request for a little boy who loves garbage trucks so Monday I started this little project and completed about 1/2hour ago. It also doubles up as a money box. Many know that I enjoy making things like this. At least I can now get back to the Rob Roy loco.

    Solano

For the last couple of years I've been 3D printing things I could pour silicone into to make "tube in" pen blank moulds. I've got so many now that they're a pain in the posterior to keep track of which is which. I was grumbling about this to the missus and she said, why not put the name of the...

Keep plugging away at custom pens

My latest custom fountain pen. I keep trying to get into making more of these but struggle to have enough time to do them. Tried to get this one with the smallest dimensions on the cap just to see how much I can change things around. Size 6 Bock nib - 137mm overall capped, 132mm uncapped and...

    Hello from North Hampshire, England

Hi there. I'm Tony. I have been spending money fast - sorry, I mean woodturning! - for about 4 years now. I started as a result of encouragement from my wife, believe it or not. She and a lady friend bought an evening's pen turning nearby for their respective husbands for Christmas. We both...

    Merry Christmas

As I will be busy from today until after Christmas, I just want to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and hope things get better over the New Year. Be safe one and all. Kelvin and Christine

    Cop26

Not to get political and lets keep the thread on the point of the environmental views. There is a lot of publicity at the moment and with it I'm getting asked "questions" of where I'm getting my wood and materials from. I had a little thought and put things in place for any woods I now buy...

    Awgb

Anyone here a member of the AWGB? Is it worth the £18 membership? Typical of me, I ask the questions after joining, I'm a sucker for things that look like a bargain (November and December free) :rolling::rolling:

    Rough and ready

Got fed up with the CA sticking to the tube inserter so made this. Dead easy job that only I can turn into something difficult. I tried to turn the PE HDPE without putting it on a mandrel and without a live centre, Ended up like a dogs dinner. I ended up trying to rectify doing things wrong...

Other things that we turn or make

But the title doesn't fix a time of making; so having moved from one forum to here I thought I would post some of the items that I had posted before elsewhere, and I invite you all to join me ie post some of your previous items that have not seen the daylight on this forum. A small inverted...

    Other Things I Done.

As some of you know I like cute cuddly creatures. In my many trip up to Darwin and down to Alice Springs to see various quacks, We have been picking up various things to make the feel at home. This was their home, excuse my finger. To this.

    Diamondcast Fountain Pen

The Diamondcast is called Metallurgy, and is one of my favourites, complex colours. You really don't get the best impression in a photograph. But in the hand these things really pop, they really sparkle in a very 3d way. The kit is a TM Kappa

    Introductions

Hi All, I've been lurking here for quite a while and been so grateful for all the great tips and ideas, I thought it was about time I joined the fun! I've been turning for a couple of years now, pens on and off, mainly as gifts. After the usual slog up to Christmas for gifts, it dawned on me...

    alternative to turning

OK so I got into working with wood a bit by accident, working as a signmaker I bought an old spares or repair CNC knowing that I would be able to rebuild it with my engineering experience. The idea was to produce flat cut letters & sign trays & possibly offer a trade service for those. BUT then...

    Why do people do that!

Well, fresh final coat of Melamine Lacquer put on a set of boxes today just as my mate popped in to pick up a few things. He was very interested in what I was doing and said why don't you use car lacquer, I explained that melamine dries faster than the standard acrylic and cellulose car...
