Since Peter posted an absolutely stunning Olive wood Pen I thought I would share these 3 which are all olive wood but not from the same place as Peters Olive.
Haven't made any pens for some time but made a few recently, the first 2 of these are Olive root rather than the actual wood itself.
Hi All,
My annual trip to Woodfest at Belmont in Kent. Its great how a small stately home can put on a festival of wood and wood crafts. It's been steadily growing and they nearly filled the carpark today by mid morning.
It's also my chance to catch up with our Derek from on here(@Dalboy) who is...
Finally. Not overly impressed with kit, and it's a bit blingy, but I'm happy with it.. Hand carved from a bit of pallet wood.. It doesn't show the scales like I thought it would as they look painted on, but they are carved.
I found this in it's raw wood state in my garden shed the other day, the end grain was sealed, it was a squarish and it was heavy. It has been in there for at least four years.
It was to big to swing in my lathe by about 4in diameter (i can only swing 12in dia) so i cut the corners off till I...
Turned today a lump of Portuguese Goncalo Alves Some times referred to as Tiger wood it made a very attractive fruit / salad bowl I purchased this piece from an old friend about a year ago he has gven up wood turning in his 90s and I want to do him proud.
Finished with a few coats sanding...
I have been out of pen turning for a couple or so years. I decided the other day to turn some more as i enjoyed making them.
I had some pen kits called Slimline 7mm pens, they are pretty basic but a good startup again. I glue the tubes into the wood but unfortunately the glue must have been to...
I made this out of a lovely piece of English yew after having a conversation with a friend who begged me to make a pen using a light shade of wood. This one seemed to tick the box and as soon as he had seen the photo he rang up and bought it!
I’m afraid yet again its a mirror finish from me and...
You can blame Eamonn silver for this :funny:
Whilst enquiring about turning Ebony silver posted a wonderful reply, in it he touched on moisture content.
This will be no surprise to you all, on the strength of that post I went rushing out and purchased a moisture content reader. I think really...
One made for a 25th Wedding anniversary/husbands 60th birthday, wood came from the husbands parents house. Both Parents no longer with us either so mean so much more to both of them.
Not sure what the wood is, any thoughts? My idea was that it is a breed of Acacia, was part of a fireplace that...
Morning all,
Fairly new to pen turning, but enjoying being creative and making some pens that people seem to have been impressed with. Until now it's mostly been in wood with finishing off with a beeswax based furniture wax (only because it came free with the wife's new coffee table from Oak...
Bit of a risk as I think Wenge is a difficult wood (Colour wise) to look good on pens and the pen choice is also something that needs to be looked at with this wood.
I think I have done well with it but I am happy to hear your views.
Follow on from Woody TVS that posted some old PSI kits. Thought I would follow suit.
Yew wood with Sap wood.
PSI Classic pen kits, RB/FP and Parker.
All finished with Melamine Lacquer.
I might make this a "Foursome" as I have a pencil kit as well. :thinks: Then a box to suit as well.
