I thought I would have a go at turning a square dish. It's not quite even though, but for a first effort it's not too bad.
The wood is Elm which I find difficult to work at times. It was very dry as it has been kicking around for a while.

More practising tomorrow and looking forward to it\

Neat, shallow approach Fred well done mate.

Peter.

Good morning Peter (or evening in your part of the world)
Thank you for the kind words. I am not a fan of turning Elm. It’s a great looking wood but it seems very brittle to me, but probably due to me being a beginner.

Thanks again

Cheers

That is a nice bowl, Frederick, You say it is not even, do you mean that it tapers off to the corners then that is great as it looks good like that. You did a great job on the shape thickness and finish.

Morning Derek

Thanks for this. When I said it was uneven I was referring to the thickness at the corners. It’s not far out, only about 1mm or so.
It’s just that I like to get things right if I can. I probably didn’t square off the face well enough or it was wasn’t square. Next time I do one and after my knuckles have healed, I will pay it more attention. I enjoyed the challenge doing this. Hope you’re feeling ok.

Cheers,
Frederick

Still enjoying turning Frederick working on something at the moment well I say something 5 in fact all at the same time.

Not being perfectly square or very slightly off centre when doing bowls like this can certainly upset the thickness in places. With turning there is always something to learn I certainly never stop. It is always being aware where your fingers and hands are when turning things like this and keep all parts of the body behind the tool rest is a must you want to try bowls like I have made where every part of the edge is like little razors flying past

Thanks Derek.
One day I will be producing bowls like this. Off now to practice some more after taking grandchildren to school.
