Couldn't wait any longer for my TB order inc sierra bushings so made some oak ones and had a go.

The burr is elm which I've had for a very very very long time and it's pretty crumbly so had a few breakout problems including the edges and one where it went through to the brass, both obvious on the pen so I cut through in 2 places as dcoration and carried on as I can always salvage the tube and start again.

I need I think to try and stabilise the other pieces of the burr before I use them.

Bob

How unusual and novel, better than panicking and I think I could live with that quiet easily.
Not an unpleasant effect at all not sure others will agree but I don't care.

Well salvaged Bob I like it as well mind I would never have done it so good on you for having the insight to do it if you hadn't mentioned that it was a salvage job I don't think anyone would have picked up on it nice pen with a very good finish

Bob had that happen one time used rubber O rings over the groove but in your case I just regard it as a finished pen, brassis cheap I would leave happenstance alone.

Peter.

Well I would think that it was lucky that you had breakouts because that is a super pen and you wouldn't have done it like that otherwise. Bloody lovely.

Oh, soak in thin superglue to stabilize somewhat before turning.

Now when I try a new kit I always buy two because I guarantee to screw up one of them. When I have had a break out, I've just carried on turning down the brass, sanded the CA off and started again - you have given me a better idea! Great stuff!
