Thought I'd go back to basics after my herringbone experiment.

All finished with Friction polish.

Nearest the camera, Berberis (thanks Neil Lawton)

Middle Spalted Apple (thanks Woody)

Furthest Spalted Beech (thanks again Neil Lawton)

Nice ones Phil.
Like the way you included the knot as a feature on the Berberis.
Have you actually turned that bandsaw off, since you got it?:funny:

Hey Phill you have chosen three beaut timbers to use the more I hear and see of the Jnr Gents etc and their probs with users I also feel your choice of Slimlines will be more trouble free as well. Thank you for showing pens that excite.

Kind regards Peter.

Yep 3 good looking pens there I would go for the Berberis, like the colouring and grain.

Yep, back to basics is the way to go sometimes, and you really have done a good job of them.

I also prefer the berberis. But they are all great.

The Berberis was a dream to turn, and getting that knot in it just at right point was a real bonus.

I'm curious to see if it maintains that bright yellow colour, it looks brighter in real life, the picture has dulled it a little.

Almost as if it has been dyed.

Hi Phil.
The Berberis will fade to a orange brown colour, if left exposed to direct sunlight, though this in itself is not unpleasant.
The piece I gave you had been cut about 6 years ago, from part of the lower root of the plant, and this does seem to be a little more light fast than the upper growth. The pen / pencil I posted a while ago, were made a few years ago now, and have only darkened slightly as they lived in the filofax I used for the Health and safety job (which I have thankfully now given up).
