This was carved out of walnut in the early eighties and intended as a gift but it was dropped and suffered 2 broken legs, one multiple fractures, poor little thing. :rolling: Chucked it in a box with all the other unfinished stuff and finally got around to making a new leg and glueing it together. The repairs are visible but still worth the effort I think. Can't remember what the base is.

Hi Bob, lovely wee wren, just as well you got around to fixing the broken leg, any sort of infection could have set in, ha ha.

Thanks guys, it was a simple project and about where I was at all those years ago. Been looking at it again and the leg is far too thick, deliberately as I was concerned the glue might not hold. The original was much thinner so I'm not happy with it and despite probable fragility problems, I'm going to have another go at it.

You could cheat and use a dremel with a burr to thin the leg down, just don't slip, I am not sure it would be cheating to use a dremel.

Legless wrens, aye I used to go to Portsmouth. I started using my Dremel to do carvings on my walking stick handles, common practice I believe.

Superb piece, well recovered and nicely presented.

Just don't start another one:wink:. Think 30 year project you may want to use a Dremel to get it done a bit quicker.:funny:

A great job Bob and well worth going back to it, I know the feeling as I have three bits of carving to finish one of which I only do when I am at rallies
