Fancied a bash at this for ages and thought this weekend seemed like as good a time as any.

Wow, have I learned some stuff today.
1. These are a sight harder than they look
2. CA stinks
3. CA sticks to everything it shouldn't
4. These are a sight harder than they look
5. You need to be absolutely square all round.
6. Surgical gloves are superb
7. These are a sight harder than they look

Well, it ain't right but I'm going to continue on with it for the experience. I have gaps in the blank all ready so it won't be any good, but I'm treating it as a learning curve. Hopefully the next will better. Drill and turn tomorrow after the thin CA has soaked in overnight.

Here's the stack after glue up.

Maple, Rhodesian Copalwood and Purpleheart.

Looks good Phill, though if I'm honest I can yet see how it's going to become a pen blank, but that's making it all the more exciting, so I look forward to seeing your progress.:thinks:

I have seen it done before but never really paid attention to how it was done.

I'm following a tutorial from "the other place" it gives some good pics to give you an idea.

It's here http://content.penturners.org/library/pen_blanks/360_Herringbone.pdf providing Jim has no problem with linking out to there ??

I'm thinking I may be being too ambitious for my skills, but hey ho, nothing ventured , nothing gained.

Thats where I have seen it before..

who??... Who's having the senior moment now then :ave_it::funny:

Cheers Donald...

That's adventurous, Phil! Good luck with the drilling and turning. If this one doesn't work you know the next one will be easier and will go together better ...
