Here in the States, we can purchase brass tubing in 12" lengths at 'better' hardware stores (but typically not at the 'big box' stores or home centers). However, my experience is that the walls of this tubing are thicker than the walls of the tubes that come in pen kits.

Try your local model shops as they quite often sell 12" lengths

I have a model tube cutter or you could use a hacksaw and sand the ends square

How do you cut the tubes that are 12" long Louie and keep them square?

I only bought one 12" length of tube, and when I realized that the wall thickness was different and it wouldn't work with the kit components, I put it aside for another project (still waiting for that project to come along - I'm sure that it will, any day now - - -). But I was able to cut one working length and get reasonably square ends.

But if you are making pens, you will eventually be squaring the ends of the blank after gluing in the tube, and that will take care of an imperfectly-cut tube.
