a Friend gave me a piece of lilac they were chopping down, I managed to cut it up (with a hand saw... God it was hard!!) and I have made this out of it the wood was still a little bit wet and its cracked slightly in a couple of places but I have soaked it in CA, hope it will hold it together?

Roy,

I hope this holds together for you, unfortunately Lilac is a very difficult wood to dry and has a tendency to split. One of the down sides of being wet is that it isnt easy to clean away the dust prior to polishing/finishing and it looks as though you have brown rings top and bottom of each blank which could be swarf from the sanding of the bushes or just general crud off the sanding medium. Did you sand this lathe running or hand sand with the grain lathe stationery?

I sanded on the lathe, but I always stop and go with the grain before moving to the next grit, Yep its a bit of sanding crud at the ends , I kept having to add glue as it started to split at the ends and the wet glue was collecting dust,

Well made Roy, with a bit of luck it will hold my friend .. I like how the grain looks as though it has an index pointing finger ...
