Funnily enough, I've just done the same. I "borrowed" some wood from a the nearby forest and made these. The pattern looks very similar. Collected over a year ago.

There are 4 of these, all from the same log. Not as nice as yours but this the first time I have found the wood, dried it, nursed it and talked to (as in plants) :funny::funny:. I even let the mushrooms grow on it for a while in the hope it would cause some spalting. Not sure what the wood is; could be Birch maybe: don't know.

Very nice work Niel. I love the plainness and honesty of the piece. My style of turning is that.
