Hi all.

Now the picture thumbnail file shows this picture upside down. When I open it, the picture is orientated the correct way. Let's see what happens here..........:funny:

Just practicing. All done with a skew. I quite like these. I must stop working close to the chuck though, I keep losing my knuckles :funny:

Cheers

Something worth noting when making finials even for practice is making the little spiggot all the same size that way if you have any that you like, put them in a bag/draw and when making something that requires one you can pick one that suits it knowing that they all will fit while choosing.

Nice work Frederick. Don’t know what type of chuck you’re using but collet chucks are great for this type of thing and are much kinder on the hands if they stray too close.

Thanks William. I agree but do not have any collet chucks. I use pen jaws when I can but I do have a set of O'donnel jaws which I should make more use of.

Great work Frederick. Your skew skills are far better than mine have ever been or ever will be. I'd have had two-part finials if I'd tried, one part on the floor.

The dreaded skew. A tool that's wonderful to use once you "master" it. I've been trying to "master" it for years. I'm not to bad but still get bit if I get cocky. Well done Frederick. Turning small with a skew is a +1 in difficulty.

You're not the only one Phil. It can be very frustrating at times. Usually it's the last cut that ruins the the job. I like making them as it's good practice for me and at the moment, I have plenty of time. I ruin more than I make
