The first picture is my first attempt at acrylic using one of Dan's Zetas. The recipient was delighted with the result although I was not quite so happy with the picture since I didn't stop down enough to get the depth of focus needed!
The second is an Omega in Olive wood and this is one of my attempts to get a CA finish right. I seem to struggle right at the end and have a tendency to sand too far with 1000 grit wet and cut through the CA. Everything seems fine until the final coats and then I seen to get a slight 'ripple' which is why I resort to the wet and dry. Not really sure why I get the 'ripple' in the first place?

A lovely pair of pens there Allen, I guess the reason for the ripples is the thickness of the glue used, speed of lathe, speed of drying and maybe other things too. I guess Walter is the man to say for sure what it is.

Thanks for the ideas on CA. I am applying to the paper not to the blank, but maybe too thickly I guess. Also I am never sure whether it is best to spread and immediately move away or better to allow the CA to rub in a little first?

Two well made pens Allen. The ca finish will come with practice. There are so many different ways of applying ca why not try it on an offcut till you find a process you like.
