Hi
Andrew and I enjoy making inlay pen kits and have put together a summary of our (limited) experiences so far, that might be helpful to others who are new to the subject. Jim has very kindly agreed to post our first draft on the tutorial section of the forum for people to look at. We hope you find it helpful and that it encourages others to come forward with additional hints/tips which we have missed. The document is only a draft and can be altered and adjusted as people see fit. We recognise that there are a lot of people out there with more experience then ourselves and it would be nice if we could harvest their experiences and make them available to assist others.

Kind regards. A & F

P.S. we always keep a copy of the instructions of every inlay we make and if you thought it might be helpful we would be happy to make these available once we have checked with the manufacturers that this is acceptable. It’s sometimes useful to look before you buy.

Many thanks for sharing this A & F. I have only skimmed through but will read in detail later.
If I can help in any way just let me know, although you seem to have sussed it out extremely well perhaps some assistance with G-code or the like.
We have some brilliant brains on the forum for this sort of thing half of them don't know how clever they are.

Hi Fiona and Andrew, I found that really helpful !! When I was a boy I built many Airfix kits, and reading your tutorial took me back 50 years. Sometimes instructions are very important. Thank you both.

Hi Fiona

Many thanks for posting, I found it very interesting having seen Andrews set up. Doubt that I could ever do it myself.

Did Andrew find a use for the mahogany btw? It came from the Riley snooker table factory in Lancashire more than 30 years ago - so it's well seasoned

cheers

Thanks Bob,

The mahogany is lovely. Andrew's got an idea for a mechanical clock (one of Clayton Boyer's designs) with a flying pendulum. He's had the plans on the shelf for a few years now and keeps on getting them down, looking at them intently and then putting them back. Apparently the mahogany would be ideal for the frame ~ just the right size. I think this might be a long term project ~ the last clock he made Simplicity took him 3 years to finish!!!

Thanks again Bob. Fiona

:thinks: I know the feeling. I have a half finished carving that's been on the shelf 7 years and a marquetry of the kids half finished which I last worked on more than 10 years ago - one day:whistling:

If Andrew needs any more just email or ring me as we are in Darras fairly regularly

regards
Bob
