Hey folks.

Can anyone suggest a nice finishing product for London Plane Burr. This was my last purchase from Beaufort and I have finally gotten around to turning it (I've been busy with other hobbies in the meantime!) The pen is not looking too bad but would benefit from a shiny, lustrous finish to sit next to my Nakaya, I was thinking a wax maybe, rather than a polyurethane lacquer but happy to take advice.

IMHO wax is not a good finish for pens as they are handled too frequently. I have found Melamine to be the best,

You will get loads of diffinative best finishes, TBH you need to find one that suits your 'patience' and is durable..
I have done CA and its an OK covering (it's a glue not a finish) I tend to use Melamine as my go to finish, but have found if I vary my approach to it I can change the results...... Let me explain..... If I finish the timber to a reasonable standard with sanding then I get a matt finish, if I polish and burnish the blank I can get a good gloss finish. I also use Peacock oil or linseed as a pre finish to melamine and it adds colour and depth, which you don't get with Chestnut Melamine. As I say I can faff with a perfectly good blank for ages just to get that bit more or just whack a quick finish on job done..... Its sometimes Patients not the finish I lack:sob::sob:

I bought a tin of Chesnut Melamine some time ago but haven’t got round to using any yet. Anyone used it on bigger stuff like a bowl?
