I saw that in the May competition. Did you use a milling machine on the pen blanks? It's a great combination and I love the pen:thumbs:

It shows skill and attention to detail. And, more importantly it's for a mate. Nice one Peter. Love it!!

Yes I chucked it in cause Jim was skint for entries near the end, somehow entries in competitions bring back memories of dancing mothers I was Eisteddford President for years and the judging people competing groups and kids, most especially in the dance sections the mothers used to overwhelm me. As a Patron of a Cat Club as well that nearly settled all the warm fuzzy feeling I had for competition I really like sharing. I dont propose sharing hex shaping etc because I trespass on so many OH&S sacred cows to acheive them. So many years ago I produced a long well photographed dissertation sending that with a group who published it on the same site a guy who received a pen etc made that way showed his gift swap from me when questioned how it was done he said I have not got a clue, this after commenting on my coverage of how.Over the years I have felt amused and amazed at mans ability to grasp the nettle claiming how they invented my processes. One case in point was making pens with Reo Bar a good friend of mine ran with that published this finding as the first and how original it was almost two years after I shared them on the same site overseas he amended the situation after I corrected him and advertise the blanks for sale made by someone for 18.00 US and called the Hay-Bar Blank. We remain great friends.

THe Australia penny from pre 1960,s was his birth year on the burl, he is an avid golfer and he shares my abiding love for Australias unique narrow leaf Mallee Burl.Using a Dremel with sanding disks of various sizes I remove all the dozens of spikey points that the thick bark adheres to going around the periphery as well flattening the burl and hand sanding on a sheet of glass interfaced with different grits. When finished the burl face would adhere to the glass plate and can be lifted up it is so flat then finished . The cut off club can support a pen as well in the shaft. Care used in finishing always matched my pen finish all in all quite a marathon. Brown Mallee Burl using my photography is most difficult but I will look later for a pic of a small section to show just how beautiful it is. Running late for Church got to go now.

Kind regards Peter.:thinks:
