Morning, Thanks I repeat there may not be depth to cut adequate blanks from these offcuts. They are no accidental find and I pay the marked price on the table same as everyone else. I spend up to several hours making them dead flat by hand use a Dremel to sand all the edges top and bottom also to take off the tips of the multitude of sharp points that hold the bark and bark removal, the rough side is given a lot of attention coated and finished the groove for the pen is never casually placed the surfacing to mount objects such as the golf club head carefully acheived. The Aussie pennies dont fall out of the sky for birth years went out of production in the 70,s. Altogether a labour of love I could make many many pens in the time it takes so I,m thinking pens are the way to go more often.
By the way every receiver has valued them highly. Sums it up like family nothing is too much bother if you care. We send 65 birthday cards, 65 christmas cards just to us Wilma me kids GC GGC each year another labours of love. Our oldest GC is 34 now we commenced sending money with cards then lots of fun. Incidentally if you ever mount a coin use a flat bladed drill and match the size by careful grinding of the outside edges evenly to provide a proper seating of the coin.

Kind regards Peter.

Kind regards Peter.

Close look at an Aussie Penny to illustrate mounting, I always polish them and coat them with Brass Laquer separately before glueing.

Kind regards Peter.

Can't deny your devotion to your craft and it pays dividends when you turn it into a piece of art such as this.
I know I would love to receive such a gift (hint) and cherish it until I died, I am sure every one of them is treasured.
Another gem from your skilled hands Peter I envy the recipient.
Sorry to hear about your friend you wrote about the other day you have spoken fondly of him so have good memories.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression I didn't value the work you put into this, Peter. That really wasn't what I meant! Thanks for clarifying, I enjoyed reading about your process too. Understanding what went into something always makes it more valuable!
