After my shoulder accident 2 years ago and 9 month recovery I got hot to catch up on my pen turning. I finish with CA. I never gave it a thought but my CA was almost a year old. The results of this showed up a couple months later. I have at least 3 dozen pens that look like this with more being discovered weekly. I now pitch the CA after 6 months and buy new. I have also changed my application procedure and don't build such a thick coat. One of these days I'll start knocking them apart and repair the finish.

That's a shame Terry, I try not to use CA now as a finish, I've gone over to the Dart side.

Oh bugger what a shame Terry and some nice pens as well. I don't get on with CA at the best of times never seems to stick what I want but will stick fingers together as soon as it can.

Funny you should say that. When I first started making pens I used CA to glue in the tubes. I ended up gluing my thumb and three fingers to a blank. It took me almost 45 minutes to get loose.

Thanks for sharing that, Terry. It must have been shattering in more senses than one. As somebody who uses CA finishes a lot, I have taken the warning. I shall be dumping my current stock, which is well over a year old, and buying some more tomorrow.

That is one of the reasons that I stopped using it and I now stick to a good sanding and the beal buffing system. I have a pen that I made for myself and it is still as smooth as ever after 2 years constant usage. I personally think that CA looks like plastic even though I started off using it however many years ago (Walter will tell you). :goesred:

Oh Terry, really sorry for you, that's a real disappointment :noway1: Such beautiful pens too.

I've never used CA as a finish - couldn't get it to work for me.

That IS a bugger Terry. I’ve been there & that’s one of the reasons I stopped using ca.
By the way, thank you for your contribution to the competition. The pens are beautiful & will raise some funds for Blind Veterans UK.

Your quite welcome Bill. I gladly celebrate my fellow veterans no matter where they are.
