Hi all

I thought I would have a go at making some acrylic pen blanks. I have not tried decorating tubes before and all went well until sanding. I think some water mades its way in at the end of the tube causing some discolouration. I have another blank but this time I have poured some thin CA over the ends in an effort to seal them. I don't really want to dry sand as I think it reduces the life of the Nicro Mesh pads. I will turn this one next week and see if that works.

For a first effort I am quite pleased with it.

I sympathise with you Frederick, it has happened to me, it’s so annoying but can be prevented.
A good looking pen. :thumbs::thumbs:

Hi Frederick

As a first attempt its a very good result..

In theory the 'acrylic' should bond and seal 100%, but in practice the seal can fail

When I was experimenting I found that the force / vibration of mill trimming the blank could cause the resin to dislodge at the ends, so I now sand rather than use the mill.

The other thing that can cause separation is if the bushes are to tight in the tubes.

Hi mate......I stopped wet sanding and Micro meshing a while ago, because of exactly that.....I do go through the grits and then use very fine wet and dry paper. Then move to auto body polishes..... Farcla is preference, then one from Machine mart.....works for me!!

Thanks all for the replies. I really need to get away from wet sanding. I will get some wet and dry paper I think and see if I get on with that.
Thanks again for the help.

Cheers
