Made this for a bowie I have been restoring, it's made from utile, made it rather quickly on the band saw and belt sander,no glue used..joints done by using small pins so I can swap ro add bits later, maybe add some bits for a pen stand?

Nicely done Matty. Always wanted a Bowie as a teenager but my dad wouldn't let me. Probably a good thing - I inadvertently stabbed my best friend in the hand with a penknife at school one day! :sob: Would probably have been expelled if he had ratted me out but he told the school nurse he cut it on a fence ...

That's nice Matty, simple works well and what a beautiful knife.

I have an old knife in a drawer somewhere, I'll dig it out and send a pic if you don't mind commenting and maybe advise on whether it's worth restoring. Not as nice at yours though!

Nice stand. I used to have a knife like that with a leather sheath. I lost it when I was on exercise with the army in Germany about a thousand years ago!!

I have a matching sheath for this too, It was made by J.Nowill in Sheffield about 30 years ago I think.

Thats good work Matty mate! Anything too ornate would detract from the beauty of the knife.:claps:

Here it is Matty, I dug it out today. Bit of a mess I'm afraid:goesred: It's never been anything else than a mess, I was gifted it by a mate a very long time ago landand never did do anything about refurbishing it though I always meant to and I had forgotten about it tbh.

Overall length 320mm blade 195mm and about 30mm width. It's pretty heavy with antler handle and one side of the blade stamped "made in Sheffield, England", other side "William Rodgers, I cut my way".
The sheath has had it and has my name scratched into it so if the knife is worth saving I might well be tempted to replace that.

I'd appreciate your opinion Matty, and any others for that matter as I know bu**er all about knives.

cheers
Bob

A sheffield knife is always worth restoring mate,I'm not sure how I would go about it with your example but it's definitely worth a shot

These are some adverts from the 80's with their production models:

I'm guessing the blade is carbon although I could be wrong.

Thanks Matty

It looks like it's the 8" stag handle on the second page. I'm pretty sure that it's older than 80s though.

I'm not sure about the blade but it's been highly polished at some stage. Photo doesn't show that.
