Had a little play over the weekend with the bits I have been attempting to carve.
Tidied the eyes and nose up on the first piece, I don't wanna go mad on this cos it will always be my first piece init?

P1090693.jpg

This one was done in my lunch break with a pen knife, a lump of something found in the par cark, later soaked in ca to hold it together.

My first attempt at relief carving, a small piece marked out with my cnc to get the sharp edges and guide me.
Cheating I know but it don't say how the score was achieved on the score card init?
I did the rest by hand on a piece of MDF as it has no grain to follow, soaked it in Danish oil to try and bring the depth out a bit.

Finally finished my Dolphin and attached it to a stick, epoxy was still curing when pic tooken but it has come out not to terrible.
The new owner is over the moon with it, that's good enuff for me init?

Well all of those show that you should rely on your cnc more Brian :funny::funny:

No seriously I know that I couldn't do anything anywhere as near as good as that and to take a dolphin and carve it into a swan is absolutely excellent... I take my hat off to you sire

Cheers Doug, my sister is a doggy person and snatched it for bitching with walkies.
Wants one for her scout master hubby now but I told her there can be only one Dolphin Swan init.
I'll do him one with a knee joint, poor sod has worn out his new one already.

You are certainly getting to grips with this art form Brian. Well impressed with what you have done mate. This carving lark ain't easy I have had a go and failed miserably. If I can put a sharp point on me pencil I think I've done well. Keep on posting mate I love to see this sort of work.
