A little pot made from a scrap of wood from an old gate post that was being skipped, No idea what wood it is? any thoughts?

No guesses on the wood but it looks bloody lovely.
Got a little Christmas tree on top init?
Actually I would guess at Cherry with the knot pattern.

A nice save from the post. The pot is great and so is the wood, the only thing that does not sit right is the handle/finial. I think a smaller one would have been better

I have another small piece like the one and 4 bowl size bits, buts its very wet and rotten in parts I managed to dry this in the microwave over a couple of days

Very nice little pot there. Lovely to see something like that from an otherwise scrap piece of wood.
