I have a couple of very mundane question for you guys, what do you glue the tubes to wooden blanks with. I have used a polyurethane glue that i have used in furniture making, same as Gorilla Glue. Mainly because i have some and it has never let me down.
I read that some use super glue but i'm unsure of it's joining of different materials. I know there are many of these glues plus different viscosity types.

I am also using le tonkinois varnish as i have seen it finish is like glass. I have applied this to my two tube and it is very thin and congregates to the lowest spot causing a slight bulge. I have sanded these back flat and now working on a way to keep it turning till it goes off.

Well that my first post be ready for more dumb questions.

I have used the Polyurathane glue as well as CA and also two part epoxy and never had any problems with any of them. Like most things it is a matter of what works for you.

Never heard of the tonkinois varnish but can you apply it with a piece of paper towel which would give it the thinnest of coats, I did forget to say how do you apply it at the moment.

I think it is a brush job though they guarantee no brush marks.

Polyurethane or two part epoxy. You do have to wait, usually overnight, but neither has let me down. Good for gap filling as well.

If you can drill your blank so that it is a good fit and not sloppy then medium or thick CA will be more than adequate, you could use epoxy like others if you are paranoid or have OCD. People say CA will not adhere well to metal as it isn't porous, but it adheres so well that I would love to see them break the bond once it is set. Try them all and choose what you prefer, CA is far quicker and less messy than anything else and those who tell you otherwise are just plain wrong.

Every pen that i have made has the tubes stuck in using medium CA .. So you can take what Walter says with a pinch of salt .. What does he know ... :ave_it:

Welcome to the forum

The CA heads out there all have slightly rotting noses. It's still a legal high apparently. There is no substitute for Gorilla glue in my opinion. Easy to use, easy to trim, failsafe, no danger to nose, lungs, eyes or fingerprints, and a much better long term solution than "hard, brittle, not the best way of bonding metal to anything, CA".

Glue up tonight, turn in the morning. The perfect working practice.

Just my opinion, but everybody knows I'm right, they just won't admit it.

It will surprise no one that I agree wholeheartedly with Walter, although I do succomb and use gorilla glue on acrylics and some really rotten pieces of wood.

Ken pics are great as well. With glue when you say Gorilla which one do you mean the two main ones I use are the thin cheap one and the expanding expensive both work extremely well, my technique is to dip from the open bottle cause I do things in batches as suggested by my wife who uses other glues the same way. I use glue lavishly well I use a lot never skimping. Interested in the varnish Les Elm in Canada also on the forum here uses a finish method of dipping etc that would seem to fit this wonder varnish has described it I know on the IAP in America. By the way just reread your post you use the poly glue and I find I keep an eye on the rows of blanks after glueing for a while in case they pop the brass out with the expansion the less you play with the insertion the fewer pops occur.Super glue varies so much as it ages in the bottle I rely on it as a one coat finish:devil: but choose the Gorilla products for the tubes. We have had big companies move into where I live and they have fresh supplies of glue my biggest problem and I am beating that is to never buy the large sizes in glues have chucked a lot out.

My experiences over twenty years with glue would make a novel, heard so many theories studied the specs on so many whatever works for you mate my way is never the highway. Works for me.

Thanks for you first IMHO a very good question mate and Welcome.
