I went to Woodys today and he very kindly me gave a couple of pieces of robinia so I wanted to do a bowl with one of them. All was going well until stabbed myself with a chisel trying to take a nub of wood off the bottom which made me drop it on the concrete floor

This is the damaged result

I don't think the damage shows in the photos but I'll try and save it at some point. Thank you again Woody for all you gave me today it was lovely to meet you both.

Hope your OK.
From the second photo I'd guess there may be a couple of cracks in it.
Real shame as it looks like a good bowl.

It's just dented in a few places and if I can mount it and get it to run true I can probably turn the damage out. I would've used my cole jaws but with lip being the way it is I didn't think I could get it to run true as the lower edge of the lip wouldn't be flat against the surface of the jaws

Glad your injury was not too bad. I think I can see the mark just to the right of the dark patch on the top of the first groove:banana::banana::banana:

I did want to do natural edge Woody, and the sort of elliptical top edge is the natural contour of the blank which when I'd turned it I quite liked it but it presented its own problems when trying to reverse mount to turn the foot off. I ended up jam chucking it but it still didn't run true so I brought up the tail stock to make it run true then finished the outside which left me a little nub to cut off with the chisel.

Ray you cant reverse mount a natural edge bowl in the normal manner I do one of two things one make a dovetail foot to fit my jaws sand and polish it and it remains on the bowl or fold some paper towl place it over the chuck then place the bowl over that and bring the tailstock up and remove the spigot then power sand the pimple of

Hope you heal fast, just train yourself not to feel the pain for the future:thumbs:

To be honest it's hard to see any dents, but I am sure you will sort it.

Thank you all for your concern, it wasnt a too bad injury and it was more dented pride and annoyance. I really wanted to do something nice with Woodys blank. I'm sure I'll be able to take the knocks and scrapes out.
