Someone at work asked if I could make a scoop thingy for her. She uses a lot of pepper when cooking apparently so would like a pot / dish with a little wooden scoop to dispense it with.

Having foolishly said I'd have a go it turned out to be a little more challenging than it first appeared.

So here it is, along with a dish I made just in case she wants it. Scoop is sycamore, dish is teak (allegedly), both with polish finish.

Had to work out some kind of jig to hold the little bugger while hollowing out the scoop, so bit of old ply fastened to a faceplate, centre shaped to fit the bowl and a bit of scrap wood to hold it tight.

That's superb, I thought you had turned the bowl part of the scoop and joined it to the shaft, I am doubly impressed that you turned it as one piece and had a well thought out jig, fantastic, well done:banana::banana::thumbs::thumbs:

My HNC in Jig and Tool design wasn't entirely wasted then.

35 years later and I've finally used some of what it taught me :funny:

Lecturers must be spinning faster than my lathe now.

Very nice and ingenious how you've made the jib. Watch those knuckles now:funny:

You're not kidding, with the benefit of hindsight I should have curved the clamp a bit, but hey it was a one off jig.

I'll be able to do the Spock Vulcan salute a lot easier now than I could :funny:

That does look challenging but you've come up with a great solution and the final results speak for themselves. Nice one
