a small goblet

Just messing about in the shed yesterday and came up with this - my first goblet. I think it's oak, it's much paler than the pics show. It's about 5" tall. Next time, I think I'll make the edges more rounded and just a little bit thicker.

Nice little goblet. if you finished it in hard wax oil sold by Mark Raby you could drink your wine from it & the wine wouldn't stain it.

That's a good tip, I'll look in to that, thanks Bill.

But I can just imagine the reaction if I gave the Mrs her Pinot Grigio in a goblet this small..... :sob::sob:

A good first goblet.

The rim does not want to be too thick as it will make it uncomfortable to drink from, the thickness you have achieved looks about right yes I agree that the lip does need to be round and not brought to a sharp finish again for comfort of use even though it may be for decoration.

It would have been nice to see the transition from the stem to the goblet section.

What finish did you use on it and also is the wall thickness the same through out the goblet section except the bottom.

Thanks Dalboy, here's a pic looking up at it:-

The wall thickness tapers: thinner at the top, getting thicker towards the bottom, which is a more rounded shape on the inside than on the outside. It's finished with friction polish & wax on the outside & just friction polish inside (need to figure out a way of finishing the inside properly without risking getting my fingers ripped off!)

Thank you for the extra photo and information. As for sanding the inside try making a rounded over piece of wood with some sandpaper stuck around the end and use that to do the inside. The more things you make the more things you will find to do certain jobs on those, if unsure you can always put up a post and ask no question is silly.
Keep this one and then as you get more experienced it will give you something to look back on.

Got a good grip on the table lots of goblets taper out so thin and frail but this one would hold its own at a Roman style get together.
