Well, I’ve been around wood turning long enough to see some fatuous bits of equipment created to meet some totally unnecessary desire of someone to make others waste their hard earned cash. Please don’t pander to this next “invention”. It’s coming to an outlet near you shortly no doubt, just what you’ve always thought you might need but nobody ever produced. It’s a knurling wheel complete with sets of different size wheels so that you can put the tube on the mandrel, apply a little hand held pressure with this useless gizmo and WOW, it’s put a pattern on the tube and enhanced the adhesion of that glue that kept letting you down. A fine toy for the wifey to buy you to add to the museum like collection of total crap that seems to inhabit 99% of most semi industrial garden sheds.

An expensive solution to a problem that could be solved, if in deed it ever existed, by changing the glue that you use to one that was suited to the two mediums that you were trying to stick, and if you really must key the surface, use a bit of scratch, it’s cheaper.

There are a number of “specialised” pen making tools that some pen makers seem to manage without quite well. Two obvious ones that spring to mind are barrel/blank trimmers and pen presses. There are in fact a number that don’t even use a pen mandrel.

I already have one of them but not for the purpose that you said mine is a metalworking one and I use it to add a different pattern on wood as decoration.

I think (from my metal working days) that this is a knurling tool that I used to use for placing patterned grip on metal handles etc. Someone thought that it may work well on wood i suppose....... It's a funny old world........better send mine back then :funny::funny:

Cheers

Frederick,
I used one I think when I did a twenty hour metal working course at school, we had to make a circular headed bolt with a pattern on the head. This supplier has little idea of reality and will sell anything that it can by creating a vague connection with wood turning. There are several resellers in this country who use this supplier who are as equally financially ambitious and will tout this sort of crap!

Thought you might enjoy the usage description on their website:
Material: Steel. Used for processing the work piece surface pattern, such as polishing the tube. The mechanical process metal knob or other work at the appearance of rolling pattern for anti-slip. Package Included: 1 X knurling and 6 X knurling Wheel(Size:

It’s a jibber jabber machine!!!
