I do an introduction to bowl turning course either half or full day. I've had several people who have never used a lathe before go home with a finished bowl after a 1/2 day. It has to be said that I usually use an easier wood to turn, like Sycamore, but I have had a couple turning Oak as their preference. If you want to turn a burr piece though I would say you might need to book a day to complete it.
