A friend in the south is knocking down a Acacia tree and has asked me if some of the wood would be suitable for pen making, he says it looks red.
Advice please
Glen

Acacia is one huge family of timber, if its red and bleeds sap could be a Wattle tree (Acacia)might be an indicator to follow up. Acacia was used in the Ark of The Covenant.

Yes, very suitable for pen making, however, both acacia and pseudo-acacia in the UK are both yellow as far as I know.

Glen said his friend was in the south Peter, and admittedly he didn't specify just how far south, but I kind of got the impression he wasn't quite YOUR far south:whistling:

I'm only teasing - that's a nice timber.

Acacia is also the wood of the Freemasons I'm turning a couple of slimlines for some Masonic handshake colleagues, both of which are a gorgeous Yellow colour.

At what point does South become North again?

I keep having to look up these woods you all keep talking about to see what the XYZ tree looks like...
