Accoya off centre bowl

I was given a small piece of Accoy and turned this from it. Clear oil finish. It is more symetrical than the first picture make it look.

I quite like it and am now trying to find where I can get some more of this material. That is not proving easy

I have tried that route. The sellers I have contacted want to supply this in complete boards only which are to much for my needs and very expensive. I am still looking for somewhere they use it and have off cuts available.

Yes it is interesting stuff. I turned a small test piece and stained and silver gilt creamed it to see how it went. If I can find it I'll take a pic.
I have some to x cut for pens but could probably do you a couple of 4" x 4" x 2" ish (as in slightly bigger) blanks if you are interested?

Well done on the off centre turning like you stated about one not looking correct in alignment not only down to the way a photo is taken but also the grain pattern can make things look different.

It appears like it is a little soft as in one of the off centre cups like you have some tear out once this happens not easy to get rid of, I have wet the wood and left it to dry before taking the final cut with a freshly sharpened chisel.

Yes it can be sanded out depends on how deep the tear out is with wetting it raises the grain and hopefully fills the tear out it is well worth trying. Also if a wood is prone to tear out then if I am using that ivolves sander sealer as a finish give it a coat of that to stabilise the wood before the final cuts.
