IMHO, presentation looks much better with refill extended and clip visible.

Actually this was just the Tamron 18-270 lens that I use as a general purpose lens, but I have rigged up my camera by USB to the laptop and using the Canon EOS Utility software I can adjust the focus, white balance and exposure whilst viewing the images in live view on the laptop screen. Makes it much easier to get the images looking the way I want without having to do much apart from crop them in post processing.

Nicely worked and thanks for the description about the camera set up - I didn't understand a word of it but understand what it does to your results which are excellent. More to learn !
