The sharpest tool....
Plain and simple, what ever I am turning I always use a sharp chisel...gouge...skew....
And treat sandpaper/ abrasives as if someone else is paying for it!:thumbs:

I have normally used roughing gouge or carbide but tried the Skew for the first time yesterday and found it was quicker,I hate the skew though

I had a dig it the first time I used one, put my off it for a long time, One day I thought I cant go through the rest of my life with out be able to use one, so I got a long piece of square pine and started at one end and proceeded to attempt to shave the edges of and turn it round. after a lot of catches and swearing and cursing :rant:By the time I reached the end of the 48" it was quite easy. I will never forget that day middle of summer, the lathe was in the door way because the sun was beating in I had shut the door one catch I jumped back and and my bare back stuck to the red hot tin door. :sob::sob: that night I had a blistered back.

Revelation strikes us all re Skews etc enjoy the ride. A mate of mine asked once do you dance, was hard one to interpret ,he said using the Skew is very much movement and touch which is exactly what I found.

I love the skew and try to use it whenever possible which is not enough as I am making models and when turning tend to be making bowls
