Hi what should I be using to give me solid colours in my pen blanks. I have been using mica powders but you can see the tubes through the finished blank.

It will depend a bit on what resin you are using, there are a number of thing you could try;
- use "white" resin that is not clear
- painting the tubes
- alcohol based dyes and inks

Painting tubes and or inside blanks gives great variety,slip a tube of coloured paper to choose insid the blank before glue up.

Alcohol based dyes work really well. I've used alumilite dye once and it was really easy to work with I used it with alumilite resin.

Mica powders and the dye combined can make some nice textures and shimmer as well.
