I presume not working means no ink is flowing. Has the cartridge been punctured to allow the ink out? If so give it a good shake and see if any ink splashes out. Try using the ink converter instead if you've got bottled ink :thinks:

Ray has given sound advice, as usual. If these checks don't cure the problem then have a look to ensure that the cartridge piercers are in place. Of course they should be, but maybe there was a cock-up at the factory and a batch has gone out with a defect in them. Most likely fault will be that the inks in the cartridges have dried, and Ray has covered that.

I have had the same issue with a few fountain pens, I am not a great believer in shaking or splashing and being in a hurry to get them working.
Pressing hard on the nib is another one I have heard to get ink flowing.I just leave them standing on a bit of paper for a few hours, it soon starts working f its own accord.
Of the pens I have shifted given the same advise and nobody has come back complaining.
I never ink them up before getting rid, let the punter do that for themselves, that way they know they have a new pen with all the problems it may bring.

Making and selling fountains requires much thought before embarking IMHO another ball game one needing an arsenal of equipment to back them up.That is to give a working product.
