I picked up one of the mini bench grinders from Aldi. It doesn't look bad and runs fairly quietly at 1000rpm. I didn't get it as a grinder I was more interested in the VS and want to see if I can adapt it to my use. The flexi shaft is quite a nice touch with a few different collets and there is a spare set of brushes for the motor.

Thanks for that Peter, I am waiting for my store to get them in, will surely check em out.
I too have an ulterior motive, not as a grinder as such.

Peter does this machine really run at 1000 revs low speed, I only ask because I bought a similar looking machine from Rutlands claiming the same low speed, which was miles out, returned the machine to them, within a couple of days their ad was changed to min speed 3000rpm

Good question, I don't know, I switched it on and tried the VS I just assumed it was 1000. I put put it on the lathe and set the lathe to 1000 and it does look faster than 1000rpm. I have no way of telling how fasr it is except it is faster than 1500rpm the fastest I can set the lathe without changing the belt so maybe it is 3000, what price was the rutlands machine? and was it also upto 10,000rpm.

The Rutlands machine is £60.00, now advertised as 3000 to 10000, I wanted the lower speeds for polishing, might pop into Aldi tomorrow for a look, probably not in stock anyway knowing our local branch

At least you know you can return it if it is too fast. I have just looked at the box and the paperwork and nowhere does it say it is 1000 to 10000 that is only shown on the website. The paperwork and box shows it is 0-9900. I will phone the aftersales people tomorrow and see if they have a clue.

Still a very versatile object IMHO can fit other wheels sure its not going to be all singing dancing but very handy, we seem to have similar releases out here from Aldi must be huge buyers.

I phoned the helpline and they didn't have a clue about the speeds they suggested taking it back for an exchange or refund if it didn't do what it was supposed to do.

I am still undecided, it's a bit faster at the lower speed than I wanted, but it might do.
